If you know me, you know when I see the clouds or sky I get the feeling of just needing to paint it. Sometimes I get the urge to do it in watercolors, other times oil, but the feeling doesn’t go away until I get it out of my brain onto canvas or paper.
When I finally sit down to recreate it…it doesn’t always go the way I want it to. The colors aren’t looking right, they’re not blending the way I want…and I end up creating something completely different than intended, and most of the time, I end up loving the outcome.
This new piece definitely was one of those times!
Title: Magenta Morning
Size: 14″ x 11″ canvas
Medium: Oil paint on canvas. All finger painted with exception of the birds which used a paintbrush.
Favorite part: I love love love how the colors are so muted and just blend together so well.
Also the birds. This piece ran into an issue when I thought I was almost done. It felt like it was lacking somewhere, and I didn’t know what to do. I turned to my favorite artist (Vincent Van Gogh) for inspiration as my husband and I had just visited Beyond Van Gogh in Rochester, and it came to me: birds!
Just a few birds in the corner made the piece, and after it had sat, staring at me, begging to be finished for a month, it was finally done!
Least favorite part: This one is really silly, but there is a spot on the top edge of the piece that didn’t get blended as it should have, but it adds character!
Product availability: The original will be available on Etsy later this month (after the varnish finishes drying), prints and note cards will be coming soon too!
