Saturday was DEFINITELY one of those days that I wish I had planned to take the weekends off for the challenge.
My youngest will be 7 soon, and we had his family birthday party on Saturday. The morning was filled with last minute cleaning, baking and party prep. I finished the party prep just as the party was about to begin, and still had no idea if the drawing would be finished, much less started. I enjoyed the party and didn’t worry about the drawing. If it didn’t get done, it didn’t get done, simple as that.
Believe it or not, I did find the time to get the drawing started AND finished! I just didn’t have the time to reveal it…so here it is, a day late!
Title: Bodie Lighthouse
Medium: Graphite pencil on acid free paper
Size: 5×7
This lighthouse. I don’t know what it is about it, but I am in love with it. It was the first one we saw when we arrived on the Outer Banks in 2015; while you’re driving down the island, you can see it in the distance on the right. I think it was the third one we actually visited (Hatteras was first, then Ocracoke).
We visited Bodie once on our first trip, but THREE times on our second trip in 2016. We even braved Hurricane Hermine and stopped by to get a picture of her up close as she was lit when we were leaving to go back home! Yeah, we’re crazy. I’m hoping that I’ll get to climb her when we go back this summer.
Crazy fact: Bodie is pronounced “Body”. They’re not exactly sure how the lighthouse got it’s name; one theory is that it references all the bodies that have washed ashore from shipwrecks. The more probable theory is that a man named Body/Boddy settled the island.
The original drawing is available in my Etsy store here. It will be available as prints and note cards later as well!
Missed a day or more of the challenge? You can find the other drawings here!
Which lighthouse drawing was your favorite of the challenge: Ocracoke, Hatteras, or Bodie?
